Dick Steadman Will Be Missed
I was really sorry to hear about the passing of Dick Steadman last summer.
I had to learn about his passing on the Internet several months later because we were no longer friends. In some respects, Dick Steadman was my enemy. We started out as friends way back when in the 1960s when we were on the original Union City Historical Museum Commission together. Then I moved away. When I moved back to Union City in the 1990s after a twenty year absence, we locked horns over the Union City Historical Museum. There were hurt feelings on both sides.
I love the Union City Historical Museum and I like Dick Steadman. Like all of us he had his quirks, his human ups and downs, but he was a solid, Union City citizen. He served the borough as a policeman for many years and in various other capacities. His family had Union City roots extending back beyond the Civil War. He was born and raised there and he raised his family there. He experienced great sorrow and happiness and community support there. He was one of the foundation stone people who are the lifeblood of small towns and cities across our country.
Union City is sadder for his loss. So am I.
